FAQs
What does 32 bar cut mean?
A 32 bar cut is common term used by casting agents, directors, musicians and actors which refers to 32 bars or measures of music requested at a musical theater audition or any audition in which the actor or musician may be asked to sing or perform. Short of performing an entire number, a 32 bar cut is generally considered to be the longest version of an audition excerpt, with shorter versions being a 16 bar cut or even an 8 bar cut. Ask any actor who auditions for musicals on a regular basis for their 32 bar cut, and you will see them get out a binder full of numerous excerpts of songs, each showcasing different genres, styles, vocal ranges, dynamics and acting choices.
